Winter Olympics Tickets The Olympic Games is a sporting event

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

The Winter Olympic Games is a sporting event that takes place in a different city every four years. It includes many of the best athletes from all over the world. The first modern Games were held in Athens in 1896. The Motto of the Olympic Games is “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” which means, in English, “Faster, Higher, Stronger.”There are separate games for the summer and winter. The Summer Olympic Games has many sports, including athletics (track and field events such as sprint, marathon, and discus), swimming, gymnastics, cycling, boxing, soccer, weightlifting, wrestling, brasketball, and many other sports. The Winter Olympic Games also have many sports, but they are played in the winter.

These include curling, skiing, speed skating, luge, bobsled, figure skating, and ice hockey.Athletes win medals made of gold, silver, and bronze for coming in first, second, and third place in the Winter Olympics. The most recent Summer Olympics were held in 2008 in Beijing, China; before that, they were held in Athens, Greece in the year 2004. The next ones will be held in London, Great Britain, in 2012.The most recent Winter Olympics were held in 2006 in Torino, Itraly; before that, they were held in Salt Lake City, United States, in 2002. The next ones will be held in Vancouver, Canada in 2010.

In the opening ceremony, the stadium is opened. Special events happen like songs, performances, dances, etc. The Olympic theme song is played, written by John Williams. The torch is brought in after being carried around the world, from Olympia, where the original olympics were held. Doves are released. Then, every athlete from each country comes into the stadium in alphabetical order, except for Greece, which comes first in as they created the games, and the country where the games are held, which goes last. The Olympic Rings became the symbol of the Olympic Games in 1913. The five rings represent the fact that countries from all five continents of the world take part in the games. Each ring is a different color, and at least one of the five colors (Blue, Yellow, Black, Green, and Red) can be found on the flag of every country in the world. The rings do not represent particular continents. The 2010 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics, will be held on February 12–28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with some events held in the resort town of Whistler nearby. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC).

The 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia. Previously, Canada was home to the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. These will also be the first games to be held in a National Hockey League market since the league allowed its players to participate, starting at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.Following Olympic tradition, then Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan received the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The flag was raised on February 28, 2006, in a special ceremony, and will be on display at Vancouver City Hall until the Olympic opening ceremony. The event will be officially opened by Governor General Michaëlle Jean.

Winter Olympics 2010 Tickets at your Ticket Market

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

The Canadian Winter Olympic  Association chose Vancouver as the Canadian candidate city over Calgary, which sought to re-host the games and Quebec City, which had lost the 2002 Olympic bid in 1995. On the first round of voting on November 21, 1998, Vancouver-Whistler had 26 votes, Quebec City with 25 and Calgary 21. On December 3, 1998, the second and final round of voting occurred between the two leading contenders, which saw Vancouver win with 40 votes compared to Quebec City’s 32. The win allowed Vancouver to prepare its bid and begin lobbying efforts internationally.

After the bid bribing scandal that took place with the 2002 Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City (which saw Quebec City asking for compensation (CDN$8 million) for their failed 2002 bid), 1999 saw many of the rules around the bidding process change. The IOC created the Evaluation Commission which was appointed on October 24, 2002. Prior to the bidding for the 2008 Summer Olympics, often host cities would fly members of the IOC to their city where they toured the city and were provided with gifts from the city. The lack of oversight and transparency often led to allegations of money for votes. Afterward, changes brought forth by the IOC bidding rules were tightened, and more focused on technical aspects of candidate cities. The team analysed the candidate city features and provided its input back to the IOC. The bid books from the three candidate cities were submitted in January 2003 and inspections occurred before May 2003, when the final report was submitted.

Vancouver won the bidding process to host the Olympics by a vote of the International Olympic Committee on July 2, 2003, at the 115th IOC Session held in Prague, Czech Republic. The result was announced by IOC President Jacques Rogge.Vancouver faced two other finalists shortlisted that same February: PyeongChang, South Korea, and Salzburg, Austria. Pyeongchang had the most votes of the three cities in the first round of voting, in which Salzburg was eliminated. In the run-off, all but two of the members who had voted for Salzburg voted for Vancouver. It was the closest vote by the IOC since Sydney, Australia beat Beijing for the 2000 Summer Olympics by 2 votes. Vancouver’s victory came almost 2 years after Toronto’s 2008 Summer Olympic bid was defeated by Beijing in a landslide vote.

Winter Olympics Tickets Venues & Marketing at Your Ticket Market

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

Some venues of Winter Olympics, including the Richmond Olympic Oval, are at sea level, a rarity for the Winter Games. The 2010 Games will also be the first—Winter or Summer—to have an Opening Ceremony held indoors. Vancouver, which will be the most populous city ever to hold the Winter Games, will also be the warmest: in February, when the Games will be held, Vancouver has an average temperature of 4.8 °C (40.6 °F).The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at BC Place Stadium, which has received over $150 million in major renovations. Competition venues in Greater Vancouver include the Pacific Coliseum, the Vancouver Olympic/Paralympics Centre, the UBC Winter Sports Centre, the Richmond Olympic Oval and Cypress Mountain.

GM Place will play host to ice hockey events, but because corporate sponsorship is not allowed for an Olympic venue, it will be renamed Canada Hockey Place for the duration of the games. Competition venues in Whistler include the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, the Whistler Olympic Park and the Whistler Sliding Centre. The 2010 Winter Olympics will mark the first time since the National Hockey League (NHL) allowed its players to compete in Olympic Games (in 1998) that Olympics will be held in an NHL market. To avoid conflict between player commitments to their Olympic hockey squads and their NHL teams, the league will not hold games during the 2010 Olympic Games, and the season schedule has been compressed. In addition, Vancouver’s NHL team, the Canucks, will be displaced from General Motors Place, their home arena.

The arena, temporarily renamed ‘Canada Hockey Place’ because the IOC does not allow corporate sponsorship for venues used in the Olympic Games, is planned to undergo some renovations in preparation for the games, including the removal of advertising from the ice surface and conversion of some seating to accommodate the media. As a result, the Canucks will be faced with the longest road trip in NHL history, with 14 games over 6 weeks, from January 27 to March 13, 2010.The Olympic Torch Relay is the transfer of the Olympic flame from Ancient Olympia, Greece where the first Olympic Games were held thousands of years ago to the stadium of the city hosting the current Olympic Games.

The flame arrives just in time for the Opening Ceremony. For the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the flame was lit in Olympia on October 22, 2009.It will then travel from Greece, over the North Pole to Canada’s High Arctic and on to the West Coast and Vancouver. The relay will start its long Canada journey from the British Columbia capital of Victoria. In Canada, the torch will travel approximately 45,000 kilometers over 106 days, making it the longest relay route within one country in Olympic history. The Olympic Torch will be carried by approximately 12,000 Canadians.

Say YES to Getting Fit

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

There are always lots of reasons (also known as excuses) for not starting a fitness program, not sticking with a fitness program, and not getting in better shape. It is time to start saying ?Yes? to getting fit and creating an action plan to overcome the reasons you haven?t started your fitness plan or have stopped getting fit. Some common reasons and excuses for not being fit and how to overcome them: I AM WAY TO BUSY TO EXERCISE OR EAT RIGHT You know you can make time for what is important to you, so to begin, make getting in shape important to you. If you try to start too big, you will set yourself up for failure. Going from no time to exercise to setting a goal to go to the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours will rarely be successful. If you decide to go to the gym, start with once per week and when that is part of your weekly routine it will be easier to increase the length of time at the gym and the number of days at the gym. You can even start with short walks. Before you start to get ready for work, walk 5-10 minutes turn around and walk back home. Almost everyone can find 10 minutes a day a few times a week. Combine it with other activities like studying, time with family or friends, listening to music, or praying. Once the door is open to regular exercise and you start to feel healthier it will become easier to include a fitness program into your everyday life. THERE IS A HOLIDAY, SPECIAL OCCASION, PARTY, ETC. COMING UP Sure it may be harder to stick with a fitness plan that includes eating right when there are holidays, events, celebrations, and occasions that revolve around food and lots of it. (Thanksgiving is one holiday that comes to mind immediately). When tempted with an abundance of food, eat the ?good? foods first and then go to some of the other dishes that are available. Eat slowly, eat in moderation, but still eat the seasonal and holiday foods that are made available. Enjoy it guilt free. More and more people are overweight, so it shouldn?t be hard to find someone at the gathering that wants to take a short walk after eating. Even those who aren?t concerned about their weight will appreciate a walk so that they can help relieve that overstuffed feeling faster. I WANT TO BE MORE FIT, BUT I AM JUST TOO LAZY Even if you are lazy by nature, you have probably spent years talking yourself out of getting fit. Now it is time to start talking yourself into getting fit. It begins with what you say out loud and from there should include what you think (self talk). Start saying things like ?I?m going to stop being so lazy and walk 10 minutes a few times a week? and ?I am not going to be too lazy to fix healthy meals? and ?I won?t let my laziness keep me from getting fit?. Start picturing yourself meeting your fitness goals. Tell yourself that you can do it. A simple fitness exercise to start out with is walking. You can do it in the comfortable shoes you already have, but you will get better and faster results wearing a fitness shoe like Stepgym shoes. To learn more about fitness shoes, how they work, and what a fitness shoe can do for your body, go to StepGym.com.

Read More about Say YES to Getting Fit. The one time expense of purchasing Stepgym shoes, the Weight Loss Fitness Shoes, will provide fitness, time with family and friends, increased health, and relaxation through effective and efficient walking with no additional or reoccurring costs or fees.

Wolverhampton Horse Racing Live Streaming – Wolverhampton Handicap 8 Jan 2010

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

Wolverhampton Horse Racing Live Streaming at Bet on Horses: WOLVERHAMPTON’S twilight meeting scheduled for Friday has been abandoned.

WOLVERHAMPTON officials will hold an inspection at 8.30am on Friday for its meeting that afternoon.

There was four inches of snow on the track and, although that has been cleared, the track was declared still unraceable after an inspection at 2pm on Thursday.

A spoksewoman at the course said: “The snow has been removed from the track, and we are working the track, and we will have another look in the morning.”

An inspection was held on Thursday at 2.30pm, and although the snow covering the track had been cleared, the course was still unraceable, which led to officials holding another inspection on Friday morning.

Conditions had improved again, but compacted lumps of snow and ice proved the course’s downfall, as clerk of the course Fergus Cameron explained.

He said: “Significant improvement has been made to the track, however, there are still a number of fairly large compacted lumps of snow and ice in the track, and with temperatures not expected to get above freezing today there’s not sufficient evidence that things will improve.”

The next meeting at the course is on Monday and Cameron is hopeful of racing taking place then.

“Going forward, with temperatures expected to rise over the weekend we’d be fairly optimistic of racing on Monday,” he added.

Ted Hankey out of BDO Darts Championship

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

It was, at first, going to be one of those matches that many would have placed their mortgage on, Ted Hankey to beat Dave Chisnall and go through to the semis.

Hopefully none of you did. Ted Hankey was 4-1 up and hitting all the right notes to practically annihilate Chisnall 5-1 for what could have been a very interesting game between himself and Tony O’Shea. It was not to be however and after the mid match interval it looked as though only Chisnall would be heading in the right direction.

For a player to come back from 4-1 against anyone is something but to do it against the defending Champion and someone no one would really like to throw against is something very special. At 4-1 up Ted Hankey just found it increasingly difficult in finishing each leg missing some unbelievable doubles to hand momentum back to the man from St. Helens.

As Chisnall began peppering the treble twenty’s Hankey could find no answers as set after set the game came went to the wire. After finally clinching the match 5-4 Chisnall made the following statement to the BDO website.

“I just did not give up. At the interval I thought I was finished but people told me not to give up,” Chisnall told the BDO’s official website.

“I missed a few doubles in the first half of the game but just kept plodding on and started to hit the trebles and doubles in the second half of the match.”

The result has done little to enhance his odds at the best online bookmakers with them taking the player from 5/1 to 5/2 to win the tournament.

Manchester City sign Patrick Viera

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

Confirmation of Manchester City’s latest signing, Patrick Viera, the France and ex Arsenal player has been received over the last few hours on an apparent 6 month loan contract with an option of another 12 months should the World Cup winner chose to do so.

Whilst the player is now at 33, and possibly not playing the best football of his illustrious career, Mancini has obviously thought otherwise and added “Patrick is a world class midfielder with a winner’s mentality and will fit into this group very well.”

Whether or not he fits into a team that is already full to the tilt of apparent super stars will remain to be seen and it will be of note to many that the Italian league is no where near as fast or ferocious where the Premiership is concerned and there will be concerns over his fitness, particularly against the likes of younger player he was grow up such as Cesg Fabregas of Arsenal.

Manchester City will see the signing as somewhat of a coup for a team that are still pushing for the fourth spot and signing of Viera’s quality can only add to their aspirations. With the loan deal only first at 6 months it shows that Mancini will simply not splash out millions of pounds on players that feel will have no short or even long term effect on his team.

City’s odds remain somewhat unchanged with the best online bookmakers making them 25/1 for the premiership title but now favourites at 4/5 for top spot without the “big four”.

England’s cricketers will not be happy with series draw

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

Thursday’s final few overs were nerve jangling to say the least and whilst admiration must be held for Englands tail end England will not be happy should they return home with a test series draw. A result that can only happen should South Africa win the final test of the series in a weeks time.

Whilst the majority of English fans are digging out the snow, those that have follwed the team not only enjoyed some great weather on Thursday but some fantastic cricket which will hopefully be seen again in the fourth and final test.

Despite ball tampering discussions and the occasional banter between opposing team players the test series has been something of a first for England who usually follow an Ashes win with some mediocre cricket. There seems to be an alltogetherness in this team that suggests the Ashes was not the final job as they look to become the Worlds number 1 cricket test team.

They will hopefully approach the last test with the same enthusiasm as the previous three against South Africa going for a win as those teams that do play for a draw end up getting bitten. The batting in Englands first innings will require some tidying up if they wish to score a good innings in the final test. Anything less than that and England will not be happy. The way they have played truly represents Englands new spirit and depsite not being able to lose the series they will want to being the one dayers as a team that have dealt with South African cricket professionally and without sympathy.

The best online bookmakers obviously have England as odds on favourites for the series at 4/9 although the draw cannot be over looked at 13/8 with South Africa playing for pride, and a lot of it.

Ben Carso is a freelance article writer currently working on the online casino list.

Toning Your Abs Is Not Just About Doing Sit-ups

January 8, 2010 Zen No Comments

We all want to tone our abs up because it not only makes us look great but also feel better about ourselves. Your midsection is the core of your body and plays a part in controlling all of our movements. This is why it is so important to have strong abdominal muscles.

Many people will have strong abs from doing sit ups and crunches but they still can’t get that toned, ripped look that everyone is after. Most of the time this is because many people do not understand that there are several muscles that make up the abdominal region and they all must be worked to get maximum results.

Just doing crazy amounts of sit ups is not going to work because you are only isolating one particular area of your abs. There are actually three sets of muscles that need to be worked on. To accomplish this you need to do a variety of exercises including crunches, side bends, leg lifts and vacuuming your stomach which involves expending all the air out of your lungs and sucking your stomach in and holding. By doing a combination of all of these exercises you will be hitting your entire midsection.

Of course a lot depends on your physical condition and if you have back problems because these types of exercises can be difficult for someone with back issues. Also, it does not matter how many of these exercises you do if your eating habits are not solid. This is the other part of the equation when it comes to having toned abs. By simply eating a sensible, well balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, you will have no problems toning up.

There are also many exercise machines you can use if you have trouble with these types of calisthenics. These machines are usually easier on your joints and much more low impact.
