Vancouver prays for snow for 2010

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

Unusually for a Canadian City, and one set to host a Winter Olympics, Vancouver has one of the mildest climates on the continent, and gets little snow. It does have a reputation for being a rainy city, and it is not uncommon for the winter months to endure consecutive weeks of rain.

Vancouver is well known for its meagre snowfalls, ranking 98 out of the 100 snowiest cities in Canada, with 48 cm falling each year. But 2009 broke all the rules and saw Vancouver’s snowiest snowfall in 19 years, with totals exceeding 114 cm. So the residents of Vancouver, along with the games organizers, VANOC, are praying for more of the white stuff before the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics get underway.

The games run from February 12th – 28th, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, with the nearby resort of Whistler hosting some of the events.

The 2010 games are the third Olympics to be hosted by Canada. These will also be the first games to be held in a National Hockey League market since the league allowed its players to participate.

The Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, is teaming up with Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room in a bid to get entrepreneurs to tackle climate change and make the city greener. The initiative, founded by the Virgin boss, is to be launched in Vancouver during the games. The plan could help Robertson toward his aim of making Vancouver the world’s greenest city by 2020.

So the stage is set for the opening ceremony on February 12th 2010 at Vancouver’s BC Place. Bring on the snow.

Ryder Cup Match Day Hospitality | Corporate Hospitality Group

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

28th September – 3rd October 2010
The Ryder Cup is a golf trophy, donated by Samuel Ryder, which is awarded biennially in an event called the “Ryder Cup Matches” between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour, and is contested every two years, the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe.
The competition began following an exhibition match in 1926 between a team comprising American professionals against a similar one drawn from the British PGA on the East Course, Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey and UK. The first competition took place in 1927.
Ryder cup 2009 didn’t lack for excitement or drama, but Ryder Cup years always seem to have that extra dimension. Yes we over obsess on this biennial clash between Europe and the US but the intrigue of the qualification period provides a strong narrative for the season and the match itself never fails to deliver. The October date at Celtic Manor provides concern over autumnal conditions in the Usk Valley but this already feels as though it will be a very special match, especially with Europe so desperate to recapture the trophy. Judging by the 2009 year end rankings we will be watching the best players in the world, Europe and America each have 11 players in the world’s top 30. The  Ryder cup 2010 captains, Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin are such strong competitors they will be their own sources of interest throughout the year and once again golf will be able to transcend and attract general sports fans as well as die-hard golf enthusiasts
Early matches between the two sides were fairly even, but after the Second World War, repeated US dominance led to a decision to extend the representation of the British & Irish team to include continental Europe in 1979. This change was partly prompted by the success of a new generation of Spanish golfers of the time, including Seve Ballesteros. He and Antonio Garrido became the first Spaniards to play in the event in 1979. Since then, Team Europe has included players from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, and Sweden.
The Ryder Cup comes to Wales for the first time in September 2010 when the Celtic Manor in Newport hosts the biennial contest.
The 1969 Cup held at Royal Birkdale was perhaps one of the best and most competitive contests in terms of play (18 of the 32 matches went to the last green), but it was also marred by acrimony and gamesmanship between some players.
The 1999 Ryder Cup held at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, caused great controversy. A remarkable comeback by the American team helped propel the U.S. to a 14.5–13.5 victory after trailing 10–6 heading into the final day. The U.S. went 8–3–1 in the singles matches to seal the first American victory since 1993.
Following this change the event has enjoyed more competitive matches, with Europe winning seven times and retaining the Cup once, with seven American wins over this period.

Ryder Cup Practice Day Hospitality | Corporate Hospitality Group

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

Welsh golf fans are being given the choice of entering the online ballot for Hospitality to the Ryder Cup 2010, or taking the alternative option of securing passes for the two ‘practice days’ that precede golf’s most prestigious team event.
The Ryder Cup comes to Wales for the first time in September 2010 when The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport hosts the biennial contest. Hospitality was initially allocated through an online Hospitality ballot. A second ballot was opened in September with successful applicants being notified in April 2010 – all unsuccessful applicants from the first ballot were automatically entered into the second ballot.
The Ryder Cup Matches involve various match play competitions between players selected from two teams of twelve. Currently, the matches consist of eight foursomes matches, eight fourball matches and 12 singles matches. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with ½ a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes.
In 2008, the format for the event changed versus the previous two Ryder Cup Matches. For the first time since 1999, the opening matches of a Ryder Cup featured the foursome (alternate-shot) format. U.S. captain Paul Azinger, hoping to give his team an early advantage in Kentucky, announced the change on January 30, 2008 at the PGA Tour’s FBR Open in Phoenix.
As well as Hospitality for the main match days, Ryder Cup Europe is also giving fans an early chance to sample the unique Ryder Cup atmosphere and see some of the world’s top players at close quarters by securing Hospitality at a special rate pre-tournament practice days.
Practice Day Hospitality, which start from £1,615.00 to £3,730.00, will be made available on a first come, first served basis via The Ryder Cup website at www.corporatehospitalitygroup.com/Ryder-Cup-Hospitality
Richard Hills, Director of Ryder Cup Europe, said; “Practice days at The Ryder Cup allow the golfers to familiarise themselves with the course and surroundings while the Team Captains get a last opportunity to see their players in action before deciding on the all-important pairings for the foursome and fourball matches.
There are two practice days in total, and Hospitality for the sessions on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th September.

Alongside the Olympic Games, the football World Cup and the Wimbledon tennis championships, The Ryder Cup stimulates the sporting passions like no other event in world golf.
Normal professional golfers enjoy team golf but put their true heart and soul into the individual game. Not so Pavin. Skippering the US Team has been his prime ambition since his Kiawah Island debut.
A second batch of Hospitality will be made available by the same ballot system, starting on a date to be announced next month and running through the winter of 2010.

Floyd Mayweather Tickets – Floyd Mayweather Boxing Tickets

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr. (born Floyd Sinclair on February 24, 1977), is an American professional boxer. He is the son of Floyd Mayweather, Sr., a former welterweight boxing contender.  From July 18, 2005 through June 2, 2008 he was rated by The Ring magazine as the number-one pound for pound boxer in the world. Mayweather has won six world boxing championships in five different weight classes; he is the former WBC welterweight champion, a title he vacated upon his retirement. He was named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year in 1998 and 2007.

He is currently ranked number 2 pound for pound fighter. Mayweather is undefeated with 40 wins including 25 by knockout. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his mother’s last name. His last name would change to Mayweather shortly thereafter. His father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., is a former welterweight contender, while two of his uncles, Jeff Mayweather and Roger Mayweather, won championship titles.

Mayweather had an amateur record of 84-6 and won national Golden Gloves championships in 1993 (at 106 lb), 1994 (at 114 lb), and 1996 (at 125 lb). He was given the nickname “Pretty Boy” by his amateur teammates because he had relatively few scars, a result of the defensive techniques that his father (Floyd Mayweather, Sr.) and uncle (Roger Mayweather) had taught him. In his orthodox defensive stance, Mayweather—much like James Toney—often utilizes the ’shoulder roll’. The shoulder roll is an old-school boxing technique in which the right hand is held normally or slightly higher than normal, the left hand is down around the midsection, and the lead shoulder is raised high on the cheek in order to cover the chin and block punches. The right hand (from orthodox stance) is used as it normally would be to block punches coming from the other side, such as left hooks. From this stance, Mayweather blocks, slips, and deflects most of his opponents’ punches, even when cornered, by twisting left and right to the rhythm of their punches.

At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Mayweather won a bronze medal by reaching the semi-finals of the featherweight (57 kg) division’s 31-boxer tournament. In the opening round, Mayweather led 10-1 on points over Bakhtiyar Tileganov of Kazakhstan before he won by round 2 referee stoppage. In the second round, Mayweather outpointed Artur Gevorgyan of Armenia 16-3. In the quarterfinals, Mayweather survived a late rally by Lorenzo Aragon of Cuba to win 12-11. In his semifinal bout against the eventual silver medalist, Serafim Todorov of Bulgaria, Mayweather lost by a controversial decision that the U.S. team officially protested. Many who saw the bout, including the referee (who mistakenly raised Mayweather’s hand when the decision was read), believed that Mayweather had won.

Floyd Mayweather has won six world boxing championships in five different weight classes. Manny Pacquiao, is the WBO World welterweight champion, IBO and Ring Magazine light welterweight champion, and is rated by Ring Magazine as the #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. Manny Pacquiao has agreed to fight Floyd Mayweather on 13 March 2010.

Owen Coyle returning to Bolton

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

For a few hours it was the belief of Burnley fans that Owen Coyle the current Burnley football club manager and ex Bolton football player may stay where he is.

News soon filtered out of his desire to leave the club he so successfully brought to the Premiership this season for a club that looks to be embroiled in a relegation battle at the bottom of the table.

Whilst there are four places between them with Burnley and Bolton in 14th and 18th respectively the gap is only two points meaning a few wins for Bolton will lift them from the bottom three and maybe thrust them above the side that will have to find approxiamately £4million to take Owen Coyle up to Bolton.

Compensation would still need to be agreed should Coyle make his final decision to leave meaning Bolton’s transfer kitty could be choped in half. Coyle has done extremely well with a team that lacks investment and a kitty as big as Bolton’s may be what he needs as a platform to extend his already lively managerial career.

Burnley’s biggest problem will be trying to fill his shoes with someone experienced enough to boost Burnley once more as Coyle did at the beginning of the season with victory over Manchester United at Turf Moor. The fans will know that unless a suitable replacement is found quickly, and that he is of the quality Burnley expect, then relegation could be facing them too come the end of the season.

The best online bookmakers still have odds on Bolton at 7/2 to be relegated with Burnley, despite being in 14th position, 15/8 to be in the Championship next season.

Horse Betting Odds

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

Horse betting odds involve simple math, so don’t worry what grades you received in school. When you enter the exciting world of betting online through this excellent website, you will soon learn the way horse betting odds are computed. Register online and begin to learn about horse betting odds and the wonderful world of horse racing.

A short primer in horse betting odds will now be presented as a preview. Handicappers present the odds based on the horse’s past performance prior to the race. The better the chances of the horse in winning according to the handicappers, the lower the odds and payout. They are expressed as any odds are, for example 6:1 (6 to 1). The difference being with horse betting odds is that the minimum bet is $2, so you will get two times the 6:1 or $12 on a winning $2 bet.

But wait. You always get back the money you wagered, so add the $2 to this total and your winnings are $14. A $10 bet would return five times the $14. Do the math yourself.

When you get to the racetrack, on the pari-mutual board you will see dollars and cents for each horse. This makes it easier; not much math involved here. The only difference is that if the board says you will get a $14 return should your horse win, this already includes the $2 you bet. This can be all learned on the website, if I made it too confusing.

Enjoy life again by getting your horse betting odds at one of the best websites around. After you fall in love with the website you will be an expert in computing horse betting odds in your head. If your high-school math teacher could only see you now. Should the teacher see you computing the odds, your grades would be raised, if it were possible.

Max Broad is a freelancer and writes reviews on various sports betting website. In this piece of write up Max highlights one of the upcoming horse betting website named sportsbook.com that proves handy for guys who want information on horsebook and online horse betting.

Sports Trophy Benefits Last a Lifetime

January 5, 2010 Zen No Comments

Sports Trophies play an important role in all athlete lives. Everyone enjoys receiving an award or trophy. Athletes especially enjoy receiving sports trophies as they represent success.

Trophies not only represent a victory, success, accomplishment or participation, they are a lifelong reminder of a positive period in one’s life. As a young athlete grows up he or she will always look at that trophy and remember the time they had playing a sport and interacting with teammates and making friends. Additionally a trophy can help inspire positive future behavior as they serve as a reminder that hard work can bring rewards.

Sports trophies aren’t just for football and baseball either. While you can find football trophies and baseball trophies, you can also buy custom or standard sports trophies for just about every other sporting activity out there including, soccer trophies, wrestling trophies, basketball trophies, tennis trophies, volleyball trophies and cheerleading trophies.

However, athletes aren’t the only good recipients for sports trophies. Here are some other people you might want to consider awarding with a sports trophy:

Coaches: Coaches work hard all year. Give your coaches a trophy to show thanks for all the time, effort and dedication they gave you and your team.

Parents: Probably the most overlooked sports trophy is the ones for Mom and Dad. Yes, parents maybe deserve a trophy the most as they do whatever it takes for their child to be at every game, motivate their child to do his or her best and show the love and support win or lose.

Sponsors: Let’s face it; your season might not have been possible without the donations or backing of a local business, school alumni or parents organization. Let your sponsors know their financing is appreciated with a sports trophy they can proudly display at their business or office.

Whether you want to award a player with a simple trophy or a large custom award, there is no better way to reward exceptional achievement than to give a trophy. Those who win trophies and awards cherish the pride and legacy that go along with the reward for a lifetime.
