Will January transfer window provide title clues?

The January tranfer window for football teams brings with it a host of questions every year with the most important one on each managers lips. Will the purchase of a certain player bring us more points?

Each year after Christmas managers look closely at their squads to see where they may be able to strenghten, prior to this of course it asking their repsective board of Directors whether or not there is cash available to do so in the first place.

Summers come and go in Europe with nothing really to look forward to unless it is a Rugby World Cup year. The 6 Nations which is held at the beginning of each year is a great competition but one cannot help feeling for those teams that never really play against the likes of Wales, Italy and France unless they happen to meet up every four years at a World Cup venue.

What an idea it would be then to copy the UEFA’s European Championship which is held every four years but in between World CUps. This would give teams such as Spain, Portugal, Romania and Georgia, to name just a few, a chance to play more International Rugby on the bigger stages.

It would also provide a great boost to their World Cup campaigns having played two years previously against those in the worlds top 10. The set up could remain the same although it would possibly be played between 16 teams with four groups of four. To avoid exhaustion for the professional players, only the group winners would go through meaning semi finals are set immediately after the group stages.

Obviously you would not back any of the lesser teams to win the competition but it must be said that the experience they gain can only be a good thing, on top of the coverage a tournament like this would gain, it would also gain more International teams that currently do not play.

Some teams will most definately get thrashed but the larger teams do not always have to field their strongest teams during each game. Those against the idea may suggest that too many players play too much rugby but five more internationals at a maximum (3 group games, 1 semi final, 1 final) every 4 years will hardly rock the boat and will provide ample sponsorship and an opportunity for lesser teams like Germany and the Czech Republic show what they are made of against each other. Watch a fight between two UFC gladiators, they bash each other for a few rounds, and nobody falls down. The moment one is rendered unconscious, however, you have seen the first real punch of the fight. The other punches were just trying to be punches, but not achieving. They were generated by thought, but the line of intention was to weak to enable them to reach completion, reality, actuality.

Venters frustrations to land him in hot water

It is still very cold in the United Kingdom at the moment although the last thing you would want is hot water splashed over you to keep you warm.

“Respect is one of rugby’s core values which underpin our sport and that must include respect for the match officials at all times. We cannot go down the route where senior figures in the game do not demonstrate that respect.

“It is part of all of our professional responsibilities, including those of directors of rugby, to be positive role models for our clubs, players and supporters.”

One can safely agree that respect remains the core at the heart of Worldwide rugby and something that should not go the way of football with public outbursts after games. A swift and decisive action is required to make sure these outbursts stay private and made within the correct legal channels provided.
