Accessories for your Golf Clubs

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

The life of a golf club is very difficult if you stop to think about it. They are mercilessly tossed around in the back of golf carts, toted around with little thought to their well-being, then brutally used to smack balls around for a couple of hours. After a few years of this, they are thrown to the side and discarded for the newer models with better swinging power and all of the new features. With this much mistreatment of golf clubs, it only seems fit that you at least accessorize them a bit and help them live better lives. And while you’re at it, your noble deeds might just make things a little bit better for you and your golf game. Read on to find out about some of the things you can buy in order to treat your golf clubs better and prolong their life spans among many other things.

If you don’t already have a proper golf club bag, you should be embarrassed. This is the main thing (besides skill and clubs) that makes or breaks a golfer. If you have all of your clubs in one organized location that is easy to access whenever you need to, you can be sure to always have the correct golf club on hand when you need it. A well organized bag can almost be more handy than a caddy, since you will be familiar with it and able to quickly access the clubs yourself. You can also find bags with other pockets that come in very handy for storing the rest of your golf accessories.

A proper cleaning kit will work wonders in prolonging the lives of your golf clubs. While you are out golfing, your clubs will get grass stains on them, they will get dirty from hitting the ground (you know it happens at least a few times per game), and probably get scuffed up from the occasional sand trap. If you have the proper cleaning supplies to get your golf club back as good as new whenever it gets dirtied. This could either be simply a rag and a cleansing solvent, or a miniature washing machine that is sold by some large golf accessory dealers.

If you aren’t feeling satisfied with the grips on your golf clubs, you can always replace them. Maybe they slipped out of your hands when you were swinging and knocked an elderly golfer into a lake, or maybe they just make your hands sore with prolonged use. Either way, it’s possible to strip your golf clubs of their previous grips, and replace them with entirely new ones. You can find the new ones in almost any golf club store or on the internet where you can order very specific items. Better grips can improve a lot about your game, including the power of the stroke that you make.

While golf clubs are an important purchase, items to elongate the lives of your golf clubs are equally important. You have made an investment by buying your golf clubs, and you want to do the best you can to make sure that your money does not go to waste. Whether this is something to make your playing experience better or something to protect your clubs from the elements, it will certainly be worth the money.

Accessorizing Your Golf Cart

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

If you are fortunate enough to own a golf cart, chances are that you spend quite a bit of time at the golf course. Therefore you would probably like to get your golf cart to be as useful as possible. When you first buy a golf cart they are usually very basic as far as features and extras go. However, you can make upgrades in the future in order to enhance the golf cart and make it into a generally better experience. This might be something to make the golfing trip easier, or maybe just something that personalizes your golf cart. Either way, golf carts are a lot like cars in that they can be changed and improved as much as long as you can imagine new modifications to make.

The first step to creating a truly deluxe golf cart is to personalize all of the regular components. Do you feel that the seats are not as comfortable as they could be? Perhaps you should consider re-upholstering them with a nicer leather finish. All of the components on a stock golf cart can likely be replaced with something more luxurious and more stylish. This is everything from the rims of the wheels to the bumpers or the steering wheel. It is best to decide on some sort of theme, such as chrome or even a dark varnished wood. Replacing everything may be expensive and it might require lots of grunt work, but it will be worth it when you are driving a golf cart that is 100% unique.

If you have a very extravagant and intricate plan that involves essentially rebuilding the entire golf cart, you should get in touch with a professional that will help you to plan out the entire thing, step by step. This could be the most expensive option of all, but if you establish a good contact who can get the job done well, then you will most likely be happy with the final product. To find a professional like this, you may try asking in some of the local car body shops to see if they are open to doing customized golf cart work. Otherwise you could look for help online on a site like CraigsList dot com, where you can post a help wanted ad and wait for people to get in touch with you.

Other quick accessories for golf carts include body kits that can be installed in just a few minutes, or paint and decal work that will take about the same amount of time. These will definitely personalize your golf cart as well as make it stand out among the rest of the golf carts in your area. Just be sure to keep your modifications on a tasteful level. Don’t deck the entire thing out to look like the popemobile, because that would be fairly obnoxious and unpleasant to look at. Instead, make it look more pleasant and make your golf course proud to have you as a member.

If you need further inspiration to get started with modifying your golf cart, just look on the internet for some examples of people who have gone to extremes to modify their golf carts. You can find some designs that are very innovative and interesting at the same time, and may get your creativity sparked.

Convenient Golf Accessories

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

Constant innovation in the golf industry has made for many interesting inventions and advancements. Golfers have seen many benefits, including higher quality golf clubs and golf courses among many other things. In the past, golf has been seen as a slow and tiresome sport, requiring lots of work and trekking on the part of the golfer. Well, there have been many different golf accessories released in recent years that will make everything about golfing easier. Some of them have been widely publicized, while some have slipped between the cracks. Either way, read on to find out about accessories that can make your life easier.

How about the many brands of glasses that allow you to better see the golf ball that you have just hit? They filter out most of the light that is emitted by non-golf ball objects, leaving the golf ball outlined perfectly against the grass. If you lose your ball a lot or have trouble keeping track of balls once you hit them, these glasses can be a great investment for you so that you can continue using the same ball rather than start with a new one. They are available in some golf club stores, but most of all they are available in a number of online stores.

There are many handy devices that are meant to help you practice various parts of your stroke. Perhaps the most popular ones are the ones dealing with the putt, which is one of the toughest and most important parts of the entire golfing process. The many golf accessories related to putting are too numerous to name, but some of the most popular include an indoor putting green that provides you with balls and advice on your putt, a putter that holds numerous golf balls inside of its shaft to dispense when needed, and many other things.

You would think that tees are about as complex as they are every going to get, but this is not the case. New types of material have made it possible for tees to have new upper portions that act as brush-like surfaces. When the golfer strikes the ball, the club will brush right past the top of the tee without smashing it or ripping it out of the ground. It’s almost like having the ball suspended in midair to hit with the club. If you want these, you will probably have to look online and buy a few dozen of them, since they are not carried at many club stores yet.

Computer scorekeepers will definitely make your life easier by keeping track of everyone’s scores and doing all of the calculations for you. They come in the form of small miniature computers, no bigger than the size of a GameBoy. The number of supported players varies from device to device, but you shouldn’t have much of a problem finding one that supports the number of people that you need. There are even wristwatches with handicapping programs built into them. How is that for convenient?

Even the recycling of golf balls is more convenient now, with golf ball cleaners that you can purchase. All you have to do is pick up a bunch of old golf balls throughout the day, then drop them into the microwave sized cleaner. In just a few minutes, the balls will be as good as new. By recycling balls in this way, you can save a huge amount of money. The cleaners are usually also capable of cleaning off the heads of golf clubs, which is a great convenience for those who are tired of cleaning the grass stains off of their clubs.

As you can see, all of these inventions have made golf much easier, and can speed up processes that would have been mundane previously. As technology continues to progress, hopefully we continue to see more golf accessories that are equally groundbreaking.

Ways to Improve your Golf Technique

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

Besides hiring a personal trainer to help you become better at golf, there are few other ways that you can get advice on your form and technique. However, with the increasingly amazing technology of this era, you will be able to find products that contribute much more towards helping you achieve great golfing capabilities and technique to your full potential. Here are a few of the most popular items designed with this intent. As you read through, you may find out about something you didn’t previously know about, and you may have your fancy tickled by the thought of being able to use it. If this is the case, then you should embrace your motivation and track down the product in question. The possible benefits are endless.

Many experts use golf club weights which they simply attach to the end of their clubs. They make slow swings just like they normally would, and they repeat the action over and over. This repetition with the added weight resistance allows the golfer’s muscles to grow at huge rates. All of the muscles required to make powerful swings are built up even stronger than they would be after a normal game of golf. This is how professional golfers are able to use the lighter golf clubs and still make powerful shots that will go hundreds and hundreds of yards accurately.

Another way to get better at golfing is to have some sort of putting green equivalent set up someplace that you can access it every day. Use the same putter and the same golf balls that you would regularly use, and set up the situation like it would be at the end of a game. Practice getting it into the hole over and over, so that your putting skills progress and you are able to get it almost every time whenever you get towards the end. This is a valuable skill to have, and will keep quite a few points off of your score while everyone else is racking up unnecessary points by missing the hole.

Instructional videos will always help you to improve your technique. If you can watch people who are trained to make the motions perfectly without any flaw, you will have much more luck in your efforts to emulate them. You can find instructional DVDs in almost any golf store, or you can simply find free movie clips to download from the internet if you are feeling up to it. They will give all of the tips and tricks you could ask for, so be prepared to stand in front of the TV with your club as you learn about how all of the pros situate themselves in preparation for a swing.

If you are not very good at golf, there is no reason to stay that way. Using some of the accessories and tools that I mentioned, you can improve your physical ability as well as your knowledge about how you should handle the clubs. With enough determination and application of what you learn, you can start to immediately notice your games being played better. So get started today, and look for some of the things that can help you. You will be glad that you spend the money and time to do so.

Is it worth backing the English cricket team?

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

The title of this article could perhaps be answered in two words. Probably not. South Africa will not be very happy at all with last weeks result and their batsmen will be wanting a big wake up call as they begin play again on Sunday. Although at the time of going to press the score stands at 51 runs for 2 wickets.

The odds on England winning the series are relatively poor although this is to be expected after the demolition of the SOuth African batsmen in the 1st test. England winning the series, which includes two further tests in the coming month, is currently at a poor 7/4 on.

England do have a very good cricket team at the moment and in particular at test level. Winning one test in South Africa is reasonably possible but winning two would be miraculous and will leave South African cricket selectors needing to either be removed or perhaps be given 6 of the best, rather than their batting selections going for sixes themselves.

Should South Africa decide to wake up and play the sort of cricket they are very capable of then the series draw will be more likely and with odds of 5/2 for that, you would wise to look into it. Do not take the word of a writer however, we could be watching an English 3-0 whitewash of South Africa which no one would have seen coming.

With Australia having been bowled out for 127 by Pakistan recently it looks to be the time of the bowlers. Bowlers are getting stronger, they have better training techniques and they seem to be much more consistent on a long term basis. This has to be due to the bowling coaches who have created fresher methods of keeping their bowlers fit and should England continue in this way there will be much movement at the top of the Test table. Should SOuth Africa find themselves and win the test series 2-1 then you will get prices of around 9/2 at the best online bookmakers.

Where do football managers go when they are sacked?

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

With football management one of the most difficult jobs to keep over a long period of time, it does seem that managers always tend to disappear when they are sacked. Where do they go?

It was a pleasure to see Gary Megson, the ex Bolton manager sacked last Thursday on BBC’s Football Focus on Saturday. Where most managers tend to vanish quicker than stains rubbed with that stuff in the pink bottle, it was good to see Gary with his head held high discussing the problems of managing Bolton and the results that eventually saw his downfall.

One may remember when Kevin keegan left Newcastle United last year when things were not placed into his control, he subsequently left the club and no one has heard anything since, is he possible managing on another planet? Alpha Centuri perhaps.

The same can be said of Gareth Southgate who was fired by Middlesbrough when lying in the top 4 of the Championship, he promptly disappeared without trace and maybe only those closely connected to the ex England defender will know his current whereabouts.

The first thing most managers do when sacked is to seek refuge or sanctuary somewhere. Away from the press, away from football. Many managers do like to get straight back into the swing of things so not to lose touch with football. These and many others do tend to get in touch with the League Managers Association (LMA) to see what jobs are available to them, others will have agents who call just about every football club to see if they can grab a quick slice of some tasty cake.

As football is a high paying sport, it is not necessary for football managers to immediately get back on the payroll leaving them free to take a nice four month break, for the mortals amongst us it is not so simple, plumbers, customer service assistants and policemen for example would not be able to cope with this and would have to get back into work almost immediately.

Since Gary Megsons untimely sacking, the best online bookmakers have selected Owen Coyle the ex Bolton and current Burnley manager as 6/1 on favourite. Something tells me they know something most do not although Peter Reid 6/1 and Mark Hughes (who disappeared recently) 20/1 seem like good bets as Boltons board suggested they wanted a manager with good Premiership management experience.

I am off to find Big Phil Scolari.

No Premiership surprises this Christmas

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

The Christmas fixtures were not all that were cracked up to be. They may have looked tasty on paper, but poor performances mixed with harsh winter weather made the later stages of December 2009 predictable and boring.

Aston Villas brilliant past performances were put to bed with losses against Liverpool and Arsenal, meaning they could struggle to pick up the same pace over the up and coming important months. An important FA Cup win on Saturday could provide a much needed spring board for future matches.

Liverpool showed slight signs of improvement but it still took until stoppage time for Fernando Torres, the Liverpool striker to find the net with a classy header. Liverpool seem to be a middle rate team at the moment with no real signs of any massive improvement coming soon and look to win two then lose one meaning they will struggle to claim the fourth spot “promised” by Liverpool manager Raphael Benitez.

Arsenal showed their usual Christmas Class by claiming two wins out of two and remain consistent, the issue with Arsenal remains their strength in depth should they lose one or three of their top players. That being said they seem to have coped well without Van Persie, the first choice Arsenal striker, who has been injured for two months, whether they can cope with the pace of up and coming games remains to be seen.

Manchester United did the bookies no favours by winning both their festive games including a 5-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic. United are now showing signs of improvement at a very important time in the season and should be there abouts come what May.

Chelsea picked up a possible four points from six which leaves them two points clear instead of the pre-Christmas four points Chelsea manager Ancelotti would have hoped for. With players now leaving for the African Cup of Nations it seems they will certainly need to strengthen in the January transfer window, to continue their charge for the Premiership title.

With the only real change at the bottom being West Ham moving out of the bottom three and with Gary Megsons poorly timed sacking it looks as though the current three holding up the rest of the table will still be there in May. Although it does look tight down there one will expect those teams above Bolton, Portsmouth and Hull City to be able to string a few results together to keep them clear.

The best online bookmakers have changed most prices ever so slightly with Chesea now at evens for the title and Portsmouth 3/1 on to be relegated at the end of the 2009/2010 season.

January transfer window will not be left a loan!

January 3, 2010 Zen No Comments

As even the most sceptical of football fans will tell you, January is never a time to buy. Prices on each players heads are hiked by somewhat 10-20% to put other teams off. Only those with a lot of cash can really buy what they want and even then, they usually have to find the extra 10% to make it a January transfer.

The bigger teams will only buy if really required or, if they feel one or two players will make the difference between second or first place. Chelsea, although they deny they will be making massive purchases probably need to buy more than others. With the majority of their midfield and strikers heading off the the African Cup of Nations they will need to bulk up to be in with a chance of winning the Premiership title and perhaps even the much coveted Champions League.

Manchester United may even look to purchase another striker to help Rooney, Owen and Berbatov although their main issue seems to be defence, especially with rumours adrift of Vidic’s departure and the ongoing injury crisis which now looks to be coming to an end.

The lower end of the table will see teams trying to loan a player here and there as paying wages is a lot less than handing out a bulk fee, especially as the credit crunch starts to have its affect on football in general. If you would excuse the pun in the title one will find most teams will be loaning rather than buying this January although many teams, and in particular Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth, will be looking to offload to give them some more financial muscle this month and again in the summer.

Harry Redknapp will suggest he will “not be doing any business” but this is laughable and he says this every transfer window, like a gambler he is addicted to buying and selling at any opportunity. You could place him as the next England manager and he will try and sell players to Scotland!

Portsmouth look as though they are in trouble on and off and will look to make as much money as possible, most of which will probably be used to pay the players wages although one would not be feeling too sorry for players earning 20-80 thousand pounds per week. The majority of football fans could quite happily stay at home after one weeks wages for the rest of the year!

As things stand, the best online bookmakers still have Chelsea as favourites for the title at evens although one could make an educated guess that these are likely to change should one or two superstars begin walking through the door.
